Cycling the USA’s Pacific Coast Highway

8

Two friends, cycling two thousand miles, in two months.

Welcome to our blog about our big American adventure. We’re going to cycle from Vancouver in Canada to the Mexican border, hugging most of the USA’s Pacific coast much of the way.

From Washington, through Oregon and finishing up California, we’ll be camping along the route and soaking up as much of that famous West Coast lifestyle as we can.

We leave on June 12, 2013 and we can’t wait! But there is a lot of preparation to be done before then. Jobs need to be left and girlfriends need to be kissed goodbye (boo!). We also need to get fit enough to handle two months in the saddle.

But why should you care about two fellas going off and riding their bikes? There are people doing longer and harder journeys, along less well trodden paths you could read about. We thought you might be interested because, chances are, we’re very much like you.

We have jobs we like, we have nice homes, great families and good friends. But we want to balance this life with an irresistible urge for an adventure. We want to prove to ourselves that you don’t need to turn your back on everyday life and take off for years at a time to do something a little out of the ordinary.

But most of all, this is a story about two mates, taking a road trip, in an amazing place and we plan to have a lot of fun. So thanks for taking the time to visit out blog. We’ll be updating it regularly over the coming days, weeks and months. If you have a spare moment in the future, please do come back to check on how we’re doing. And if you have any comments, ideas or questions, please do write to us and we’ll get back to you.

Thanks for your time

  1. Good luck guys! I’m sure you’re both an inspiration to many other people who may be stuck in a dead end job and not realise they too can have a little adventure without taking off for many years to do something out of thye ordinary.

    • Cheers mate, we appreciate the nice comment. And you’ve got an adventure of your own coming up. You must be very excited! We’re both looking forward to seeing you and your lovely lady soon. James

  2. The best of Luck! Sounds like amazing times ahead of you. Definitely an inspiration to anyone who doesn’t believe adventure can be in just about anything or even in any amount of time.

    • Thanks, we’re looking forward to the trip and can’t wait to drop out of the rat race for a couple of months. Two months of simply cycling and thinking about the world is very appealing!
